Description

AP Professionals of Rochester has partnered with a local aerospace manufacturer that is in search of a Metallurgist to join their team. The Metallurgist will report into the Engineering Manager and will be responsible for investigating and conducting experiments centered around properties of metals. Experience in a manufacturing environment is desired. Must have a bachelor’s degree in a related field.

This is a full time, direct hire opportunity eligible for a $1000 sign-on bonus! This is an onsite position that requires a local Rochester, NY candidate that can commute every day.

This position is not eligible for Visa sponsorship and requires Citizens or Permanent Residents of the US.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize expertise in the metallurgy and processing of Ferrous, Titanium, and Nickel base alloys and their effects on microstructure, mechanical, and physical properties.
  • Work with the Sales Department to review contracts.
  • Comprehend and adhere to the Quality standards and approve products and controls for non-conformance.
  • Collaborate with Process Engineers and Operations groups to devise hot working, cold working, and heat-treating processes that align with specifications. Issue reports accordingly.
  • Consult with Engineers and Operations staff to develop cost-effective methods for manufacturing alloys and implement clear shop floor instructions.
  • Assist in Continuous Improvement and Cost Reduction initiatives. Utilize Quality and Finite Element Analysis.
  • Provide support for Quality functions, including the release of documentation for incoming raw materials and forging Certificates of Conformity.
  • Examine manufacturing issues to identify the most efficient approaches for processing metals commercially and report findings.
  • Oversee furnace surveys, Heat Treat Operator qualification training and exams, and Brinell Hardness qualification exams in collaboration with the Heat Treat Department.

Education

  • Bachelor's or Ph.D Degree, preferably in materials science

Experience

  • 2+ years of Quality Assurance experience
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to meet the requirements pertaining to Vision Acuity Testing under the Quality Assurance Manual
  • Working knowledge of ISO9000 and AS9100 quality standards and material specifications is preferred
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Excel and Word.
  • Tier One Aerospace DSQR Certification is a plus
