Description

AP is partnering with a local company in search of an Accounting Assistant. The Accounting Assistant will be responsible for performing tasks with strict deadlines, providing clear financial reports to management, and collaborating with programmatic staff and leadership teams. The role requires knowledge of accounting principles, computer proficiency, and strong communication skills. The ideal candidate should possess promptness, attention to detail, professionalism, analytical skills, and the ability to effectively communicate quantitative data to decision-makers.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare cash receipt reports, including daily bank deposits.
  • Ensure bank deposits are accurately balanced before entering into the general ledger.
  • Record cash receipt activity and post it into the general ledger.
  • Perform entry-level accounting functions as needed.
  • Assist with the administration of program reimbursement contracts, obtaining relevant information to complete the contracting process.
  • Help with processes related to accounts payable as required.
  • Identify internal control problems and financial process issues and recommend improvements to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Adhere to company's internal control policies and assist with external audits.
  • Conduct financial analyses as needed.
  • Attend meetings and training programs as required.
  • Uphold company's Mission, Vision, Values, and Strategic Plan.
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned.

Education

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Experience

  • One to three years of financial or billing work experience.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Must have knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Must be proficient in financial/accounting software.

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, communication skills and attention to detail required.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment within tight deadlines.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize duties.
  • Willingness to foster agency, departmental and program wide cooperation and teamwork through use of positive/constructive communication techniques.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data and to handle problem resolution.
  • Possession of a valid NYS Driver’s license and a driver's record considered acceptable by agency and insurance carrier.
  • Continuous use of a reliable, registered, and insured vehicle.
  • Ability to travel in all weather conditions throughout the counties served.
  • Adheres to all applicable federal and state laws and regulations including, but not limited to, those governing confidentiality, privacy, program, billing, and documentation standards.
  • All duties must be performed in accordance with the company’s corporate compliance and ethics program.
