Description

AP Professionals has partnered with a growing construction company in search of an experienced Accounting Manager to lead accounting operations. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in construction accounting, with hands-on experience in job costing, percent of completion revenue recognition, and monthly close procedures. This role will also oversee account analysis, financial reporting, and process improvements to support the company's financial health and operational efficiency. This position is fully onsite with time split between two sites.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the job costing process, ensuring accurate tracking of labor, materials, subcontractors, and overhead to projects.
  • Manage percent of completion (POC) accounting in compliance with GAAP and work closely with project managers to forecast and analyze project profitability.
  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Perform detailed account reconciliations and variance analyses, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
  • Prepare and review internal financial reports, including job cost reports, WIP schedules, and financial statements.
  • Collaborate with project management and operations teams to ensure financial data accuracy and alignment with project goals.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and accounting standards.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing training and support as needed.
  • Assist with the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts.
  • Support external audits, including providing schedules, documentation, and responding to auditor inquiries.
  • Maintain and improve accounting procedures, systems, and tools—particularly within Sage 300 CRE (Timberline).

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required.
  • CPA preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum 5+ years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in construction accounting.
  • Experience with monthly close processes, account reconciliation, and financial reporting.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

  • Strong understanding of job cost accounting and POC revenue recognition.
  • Proficiency in Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate (Timberline) is highly preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, etc.).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and provide financial insights to non-finance personnel.
