Description

AP Professionals has partnered with an aerospace manufacturer near Rochester, NY seeking a Design Engineer to join their team. The role of a Design Engineer entails an experienced engineer who is responsible for analyzing, researching, and designing components or systems. This can involve developing new products or enhancing existing ones to minimize costs, improve performance, or streamline manufacturing operations. The Design Engineer tackles products or systems of moderate scope and complexity for assigned programs, utilizing diverse engineering principles from mechanical, materials science, or other relevant engineering disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes product specifications, performance requirements, and current manufacturing capabilities to create designs.
  • Applies engineering principles and established analytical tools to carry out moderately complex design, fabrication, modification, and evaluation of components, subsystems, and systems. In some cases, develops detailed designs based on sketches and descriptive transfer functions provided by others.
  • Explores important design factors such as ease of manufacturing, material and equipment availability, interchangeability, replaceability, strength-weight efficiency, contractual specification requirements, cost considerations, and proposed changes. Provides recommendations and proposals that define costs and suggest improvements.
  • Coordinates with designers or drafters, interprets customer and functional requirements and utilizes computer-aided design tools to prepare or supervise the preparation of product layouts, detailed drawings, and assembly drawings.
  • Adheres to industry and drawing standards while developing data, preliminary sketches, notes, and documentation in response to customer proposal requests.
  • Conducts thorough reviews of drawings and assembly models to ensure adherence to standards, procedures, and specifications, as well as clarity, completeness, form, fit, and function. Identifies design errors, omissions, and other shortcomings, and suggests revisions and enhancements to engineers or other designers.
  • Performs analyses and/or tests related to the development of new designs, methods, materials, or processes. Follows engineering principles and company standards to generate reports, procedures, or change proposals and completes the required documentation.
  • Coordinates, designs, and develops new product designs or modifies existing ones.
  • Designs and devises testing plans to assess the performance of new and/or existing product designs.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree (BS) in Manufacturing Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

Experience

  • Accumulated 2-5 years of previous experience in the industry.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

  • Capacity to work efficiently within cross-functional teams, effectively conveying information to team members, team leaders, and upper management.
  • Exceptional customer service abilities and excellent communication skills.
  • Basic familiarity with the aerospace industry or comparable industries, including knowledge of manufacturing environment regulations and legal obligations.
