Responsibilities

The Director of Financial Planning and Analysis (FPA) must have significant subject matter expertise, operations, and finance experience. This role directs the annual revenue and expense budgeting process, including providing staff with budget guidance, timeline, tools, training, and hands-on assistance while promoting a budgeting culture and discipline for creating and justifying annual budgets and alignment with the Agency’s business initiatives and strategy. Facilitates the review and approval process of the annual budget and forecasts in collaboration with the CFO and Corporate Controller, including budget presentations to the CEO, Senior Leadership, Audit and Finance Committee and Board of Directors.

This role serves as the leader of the FPA team and, together, the team is responsible for the direct management of monthly relevant reporting variance analysis of actual spending to the operating plan and forecasts, with explanations of trends and root causes.  The Director of FPA directs all facets of FPA insightful and consistent data preparation, report creation, and effective visualizations that explain and substantiate the proposed budget and actual results while applying financial expertise with a firm understanding of finance and accounting concepts. The Director of FPA is a key finance partner to the Agency’s program leaders and senior management, leveraging interpersonal skills, building partnerships based on communication, collaboration, and value-based relationships.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Directs the development of the Annual Operational Budget and Forecasts
  2. Leads a high degree of coordination among FPA team members and senior leadership.
  3. Jointly collaborates with executive leadership by communicating financial results, providing decision making analysis and scenario modeling relative to business development, acquisitions, and dispositions.
  4. Analyzes and understands management reports in collaboration with business and finance teams.
  5. Identifies Agency trends and compares them to industry trends, extract insights and deliver actionable presentations of findings.
  6. Directs the development of key performance indicators and monitors results.
  7. Monitor operational statistics, reports trends, variances, and issues; take appropriate action including proactively notifying business or financial partners and management.
  8. Business profitably and sustainability analysis and reporting
  9. Develop and coach direct reports and FPA Team
  10. Participates and supports various project management teams.

Education

  • BA/BS Accounting, Business, or Finance required.
  • Evidence of the practice of high-level of confidentiality
  • MBA or advanced degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance preferred.

Experience

  • CPA, CMA preferred.
  • 7 to 10 years relevant experience in accounting, audit, business, or financial management
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant FPA experience
