Description

AP Professionals has partnered with a local company looking for a Director of Finance. The Director of Finance will serve a key role in the overall operation of the organization by managing the operating budget, endowment, and overseeing HR. This position will work closely with the President, other senior leadership, and the Board of Trustees to support the day-to-day financial, accounting, investment, and HR needs while also developing strategies to support its long-term financial sustainability. The position will require extensive collaboration with other key staff. The ideal candidate will have the ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations, with strong written and verbal communication, administrative, and organizational skills, and the ability to maintain a realistic balance among multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

Financial Management 

  • Produce, review, analyze, and communicate financial reports and data, monitor performance to budget and respond to significant fluctuations with recommendations
  • Manage both accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
  • Oversee cash management including cash liquidity and forecasting to meet operating needs
  • Manage preparation of annual operating and capital budgets
  • Work closely with Development staff in preparation of grant requests, tracking of expenditures by grant, and completion of grant reporting
  • Manage external audit including preparation of audit schedules and financial statements and review annual forms 990 and 990-T

Human Resources 

  • Manage all benefit plans and programs
  • Act as retirement plan administrator
  • Supervise Human Resources manager

Other Strategic Priorities 

  • Review contracts for all aspects of operations
  • Evaluate and negotiate all liability and property insurance
  • Manage all financing, investing and banking relationships
  • Oversee all legal issues
  • Manage a variety of finance/HR-related software programs or technology, create reports, training other staff
  • Liaison with Audit and Finance Committee and regularly report at Board meetings
  • Set policies and procedures with departments around revenue and expense tracking, internal controls and provide process improvements as needed

 

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required, CPA or MBA preferred

Experience

  • 8-10 years of experience in financial leadership, with significant work in budgeting, accounting, and grants management. increasing levels of management experience
  • Experience with non-profit accounting
  • Human resources experience strongly preferred
  • At least 3 years of supervisory experience, with demonstrated success in motivation and team building that achieve short- and long-term objectives
  • Experience in building a finance team to carry out internal controls and manage strategic initiatives

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

  • Strong planning, budgeting and analytical abilities
  • Ability to extract, analyze, and present data to support quality decision-making
  • Skilled at presenting financials so that they are understandable to those without expertise
  • Skilled at goal setting and measuring success
  • Ability to organize multiple projects and tasks
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software, particularly Excel with familiarity with pivot tables and power queries. Sage Intacct, and other technology used by the department
  • Strong written and oral communication skills required with ability to tailor messaging to the skill level and knowledge of the audience
