Description

AP Professionals has partnered with a local manufacturer in search of a Dispatcher. The Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating and scheduling drivers to ensure safe, efficient, and timely pick-up and delivery. This role focuses on optimizing driver and truck utilization to maximize capacity and productivity while providing prompt, courteous, and effective service to customers.

This is an on-site role, Monday through Friday, 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with availability to address issues after hours or on weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules drivers for pick-up and delivery, selecting the most efficient routes for each assignment.
  • Manages equipment availability, assigning drivers, trucks, and additional personnel as needed.
  • Anticipates potential weather-related issues on routes and at destinations, communicating any delays or necessary route adjustments.
  • Maintains regular contact with drivers, dispatching assistance or emergency aid when required.
  • Reviews operational records and monitors daily logs for errors or compliance issues.
  • Tracks drivers’ working hours to ensure adherence to federal and state regulations.
  • Processes driver trip sheets and assists with driver payroll activities.
  • Oversees vehicle maintenance and repair schedules.
  • Maximizes productivity by autonomously routing vehicles with minimal managerial direction.
  • Responds to incoming calls, emails, and texts from drivers, operations, customers, customer service, and the sales team.
  • Participates in an on-call rotation, providing after-hours support as needed.
  • Proactively identifies and resolves potential delivery and service issues to prevent disruptions.
  • Coordinates with the maintenance team and serves as an emergency contact for mechanical issues or downtime.
  • Assigns loads to drivers based on optimal routes and current driver locations.
  • Collects and maintains documentation for scheduled, missed, and extra pick-ups, as well as route completions and driver locations, ensuring driver accountability.
  • Delivers professional, courteous service to both internal and external customers.
  • Reports driver performance concerns to management for resolution.
  • Collaborates with the Safety Department to enforce company policies and procedures.
  • Assists in evaluating, implementing, and training on a new dispatch system when required.
  • Supports and promotes a positive company culture.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Associate’s degree in Transportation or Logistics, or equivalent job-related experience, is preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of three years of experience in a related role, particularly in warehouse or freight operations.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with a positive attitude and a proactive, take-charge approach.
  • Strong organizational skills for route planning and assignment.
  • Effective leadership abilities to ensure driver compliance with tasks and directives.
  • Holds self and assigned drivers accountable for meeting state and federal regulations, as well as company policies.
  • Proficient in or able to quickly adapt to dispatch and record-keeping systems.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • In-depth understanding of the shipping industry.
  • Familiarity with Office 365 products.
