Description

AP Professionals has partnered with a local manufacturing company in search of a Dispatcher! The ideal candidate will coordinate and schedule drivers for safe, efficient, and timely operations. This role optimizes driver and truck use to maximize productivity and customer satisfaction. On-site Monday through Friday, with occasional after-hours or weekend availability required to address urgent matters.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and assigns drivers for pick-ups and deliveries, selecting the most efficient routes for each.
  • Manages equipment availability, assigning drivers, trucks, and additional resources as needed.
  • Anticipates weather-related issues along routes and at destinations, communicating delays and alternative routes when necessary.
  • Maintains regular contact with drivers and dispatches emergency assistance when required.
  • Keeps and reviews operational records, monitoring daily logs for accuracy and compliance.
  • Tracks drivers' work hours to ensure alignment with federal and state regulations.
  • Processes driver trip sheets and assists with driver payroll functions.
  • Oversees scheduling for vehicle maintenance and repairs.
  • Ensures optimal routing of vehicles to maximize productivity, operating independently with minimal direction.
  • Responds to incoming communications from drivers, operations, customers, and internal departments.
  • Participates in a rotating on-call schedule to provide after-hours support as needed.
  • Proactively identifies and resolves potential service or delivery issues before disruptions occur.
  • Coordinates with maintenance personnel and acts as an emergency contact for vehicle downtime and other operational issues.
  • Assigns loads to drivers based on ideal routes and driver locations.
  • Collects and organizes documentation on scheduled, missed, and additional pick-ups, route completion, and driver locations, ensuring adherence to service and paperwork standards.
  • Engages professionally and courteously with both external and internal customers.
  • Reports any driver performance concerns to management for resolution.
  • Collaborates with the Safety Department to enforce company policies and procedures.
  • Assists with the implementation and operation of new dispatch systems as needed, including training others.
  • Contributes to a positive company culture.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate’s degree in Transportation or Logistics preferred, or equivalent job-related experience.

Experience

  • Minimum of three years of relevant experience in warehouse or freight operations.

  • Excellent organizational skills for route preparation and assignment.
  • Effective leadership skills to ensure driver compliance with instructions and assignments.
  • Holds self and assigned drivers accountable for adhering to state, federal, and company policies and regulations.
  • Proficient in or able to quickly learn dispatch and recordkeeping software.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of the shipping industry.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office 365 products.
