Description

AP Professionals is partnering with a Rochester-based higher education company seeking an IT Project Manager Contractor for a 6 to 12-month contract. The role requires a skilled project manager with experience in overseeing small to medium-sized infrastructure and software projects, including system assessment, planning, implementation, and training. This position is crucial for achieving technology project goals.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct needs assessments to identify potential projects.
  • Evaluate and recommend systems and solutions that meet institutional requirements.
  • Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Define project plans and deliverables.
  • Assemble the project team with relevant stakeholders and establish communication protocols.
  • Include training plans in both project planning and implementation phases.
  • Oversee the system implementation, coordinating with stakeholders and vendors using a minimum viable product (MVP) approach.
  • Maintain timely communication with the leadership team.
  • Proactively address and resolve issues to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Develop a backlog for future feature enhancements.
  • Ensure the system's operational health with weekly checks during the first month, transitioning to bi-weekly, and then quarterly audits.
  • Develop and implement a plan for future feature additions in subsequent phases.

Education

  • Associate degree in Information Technology (IT) or a related field required; bachelor's degree in IT, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • PMP, PRINCE2, or another relevant project management certification preferred.

Experience

  • At least 3 years of proven experience as a Project Manager, ideally in the technology sector.
  • Experience with system evaluation, selection, and implementation.
  • Background in the education sector or with higher education institutions desired.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

  • Knowledge of project management methodologies such as Agile and Waterfall.
  • Exceptional organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects concurrently and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure and software solutions specific to educational environments.
  • Understanding of IT service management and helpdesk operations.
