Description

We are partnering with a premier higher education institution in search of a Payroll Manager. This position plays a key role in a high-volume, complex payroll process.  The Payroll Manager performs the day-to-day payroll function, while also ensuring compliance with wage and hourly regulatory reporting requirements. Responsibilities

  • Perform all activities necessary to process biweekly payrolls including generating and transmitting electronic files for payroll and benefit processing, and auditing salary, and hourly pay for compliance with state overtime requirements benefit accruals and general labor laws.
  • Maintain and oversee federal work study status of student employees based on financial aid changes. Reconcile federal work study wage data for federal drawdown of funds.
  • Reconcile payroll withholding accounts from the human resource payroll system to the financial general ledger system.
  • Monitor leave accruals, run reload process and make necessary adjustments.
  • Research and advise on unique payroll situations involving benefits, severance, retirement, etc.
  • Prepare and manage the distribution of W-2 forms including annual ad-hoc requests.
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable state and federal wage and hour laws.
  • Provide information and training on payroll processes and procedures to managers and employees including self-service.
  • Provide data and statistics for all internal and external payroll reporting.
  • Point of contact for all payroll questions and concerns.

 

OTHER

  • Configure, test and maintain People Soft modules related to payroll and tax compliance.
  • Attend bi-weekly PeopleSoft HCM and Team Leader meetings.
  • Partner with Human Resources in aligning and implementing a more sophisticated human resources/payroll system. Analyze payroll trends and opportunities for efficiency improvements.
  • Confirm and record departmental deposits of cash and checks.  Improve process to eliminate unnecessary cash reserves, ensure sales tax compliance and proper accounting information.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in business/accounting or the equivalent. FCP or CPP designation preferred. At least 3 to 5 years’ experience in payroll utilizing enterprise resource planning systems. Experience with the PeopleSoft Human Capital Management system is a plus. Strong PC and spreadsheet software skills required. Extensive knowledge of payroll and human resources concepts and systems is needed. The incumbent must be able to work independently. Must have strong time management skills. This person must be able to exercise discretion in handling confidential information. Strong communication and customer service skills required. Candidates must be able to meet time-sensitive deadlines.
