AP Professionals has partnered with a manufacturing company in search of a Hardware Systems Engineer.  The Principal Hardware Systems Engineer plays a pivotal role in advancing our presence in the USA market for OEM photonics-enabled medical and life science devices. This represents a thrilling opportunity to join a burgeoning R&D team from its inception, collaborating closely with our top-tier team based in the United Kingdom.

This is a Full Time, Direct Hire opportunity offering excellent benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Assume accountability for Electronics and Firmware design in various projects.
  • Actively engage in the practical implementation of design concepts.
  • Collaborate with clients to identify and define project requirements.
  • Adhere to the New Product development plan, overseeing the project lifecycle from conceptualization to production while collaborating with relevant departments.
  • Collaborate within a multinational, interdisciplinary team.
  • Serve as a tutor and mentor for junior engineers, fostering their professional growth.
  • Stay updated on technological advancements, regulations, and best practices.
  • Conduct simulations, breadboarding of concepts, and the creation of test setups.
  • Assist in building and testing prototypes.
  • Handle certain aspects of project management.
  • Offer technical support to the Business Development team.
  • Operate within the framework of ISO 9001/ISO 13485 standards.

Education

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Physics, Computer Science Engineering, or a related field is required.
  • A Master's or Ph.D. in Electronics, Physics, Computer Science Engineering, or a related field is highly desirable.

Experience

  • A minimum of 8 years of practical design experience, ideally within an R&D department or a design consultancy.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

  • Proficiency in Digital, FPGA, and Analogue design is essential.
  • Hands-on experience with Embedded Programming languages such as 'C', VHDL, C++, .NET, C#, Java, Python, or algorithm development is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with Photonics is a plus.
  • Demonstrates a proactive "can-do" attitude, exhibits curiosity, and is open to taking on tasks as required by the project.
  • Possesses the ability to interact with clients, along with strong presentation and communication skills.
  • Willingness to contribute to the growth and development of the R&D department and the establishment of an expert team.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy, striving for a "right first time" approach, supported by thorough calculations and simulations.
  • This role will be located at our Rochester, New York office, with a hybrid work arrangement.
  • Anticipate approximately 10% travel as part of the job.
