Description

AP Professionals has partnered with a manufacturing company in search of a Senior Engineer of Valves. This Senior Engineering position, reporting to the Valve Engineering Manager, is a crucial role within the Commercial Valve Engineering Team. The incumbent will be responsible for supporting the design, development, and project management of hydraulic and electrically actuated valves specifically designed for heavy-duty diesel and natural gas engine applications. Preference will be given to candidates with specific experience in high-temperature exhaust systems, as well as expertise in hydraulic, oil, and coolant control valves. Additionally, a background in electro-mechanical engineering is highly desirable for this position.

This is a full-time, direct hire opportunity.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate customer inquiries and analyze specification requirements to determine their feasibility and compliance. Develop innovative design concepts that meet cost objectives.
  • Create custom products, including EGR valves, coolant valves, fuel injectors, and proportional solenoid valves, for various media such as air, water, and oils.
  • Apply engineering tools such as FEA (Finite Element Analysis), CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics), FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), and Six Sigma principles to assess and mitigate risks, while identifying critical parameters for improvement.
  • Lead teams in implementing cost reduction strategies for existing products and programs.
  • Occasionally travel to meet customers for VOC (Voice of the Customer) discussions, design reviews, FMEA reviews, and general technical and project support. Attend industry trade shows and technical training sessions as necessary.
  • Promptly address customers' project information needs and provide timely responses.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional team members to conduct comprehensive design reviews.
  • Develop product designs, enhancements, and modifications that align with customer specifications, regulatory compliance, assembly requirements, and product life cycle considerations.
  • Provide guidance and support to Test Engineers and Technicians in formulating and executing test requests. Assist in conducting various environmental tests, including vibration, shock, thermal, humidity, and salt spray testing. Expect occasional hands-on work in the test lab.

Education

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering.

Experience

  • Possesses 5 – 10 years of relevant experience in product development.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

  • Proficient in 3D modeling complex parts using Creo Parametric or other 3D modeling software.
  • Trained in the application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) is preferred.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills, capable of presenting complex technical data concisely both verbally and in written form.
  • Possesses a general understanding of designing machined metal parts, forgings, castings, stampings, and injection molded components.
