Description

AP Professionals is working with a local food manufacturer in search for a Senior Engineer. The Senior Engineer leads large-scale projects focused on safety, compliance, process improvement, and operational efficiency. This role manages budgets, timelines, and cross-functional teams while ensuring adherence to engineering, safety, and environmental standards. It requires strong knowledge of project management, process equipment, and PSM regulations, along with the ability to implement technical solutions and mentor junior engineers. Occasional travel and work in an industrial plant environment are expected.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, execution, and completion of complex engineering projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and strategic objectives.
  • Define project scope, objectives, deliverables, and success metrics in collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • Direct cross-functional teams including engineering, procurement, safety, operations, and contract labor to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Develop and manage project budgets ranging from $250K to $5M, including forecasting and cost control measures.
  • Allocate resources effectively to meet project timelines, budgets, and performance targets.
  • Proactively identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies to minimize impact.
  • Ensure adherence to safety, health, and environmental regulations throughout all project phases.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between project teams, plant leadership, and external stakeholders.
  • Provide timely updates to senior leadership on project status, challenges, and financial performance.
  • Offer technical leadership in areas such as process design, equipment selection, and construction oversight.
  • Review engineering designs to ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and internal policies.
  • Promote the adoption of best practices and innovative solutions to improve plant performance and reduce operational costs.
  • Collaborate with Procurement on the acquisition of equipment, engineering, and construction services.
  • Develop and execute project Commissioning Plans, supporting qualification and verification during start-up phases.
  • Manage external contractors and consultants to supplement internal project resources as needed.
  • Oversee all aspects of project delivery, including scope management, cost tracking, scheduling, construction management, training, coordination, and post-project reviews.
  • Lead process safety and environmental compliance initiatives within engineering projects.
  • Ensure full compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements.
  • Actively participate in and support plant safety programs and initiatives.
  • Responsible for the supervision and direction of an Engineering Intern.

Education

  • Advanced degree in engineering, project management, or a related discipline.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.

Experience

  • Experience with Focused Improvement methodologies such as DMAIC; Six Sigma certification is a plus.
  • Familiarity with industrial control systems, including Rockwell, Siemens PCS7, DeltaV, and Modicon.
  • Hands-on experience with batch chemical processing operations.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

  • Extensive experience applying project management methodologies to large-scale projects ($5M+).
  • Deep understanding of chemical process design and engineering principles.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively across all organizational levels and with external vendors.
  • Proven ability to thrive in fast-paced environments, manage pressure, and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Project, SAP, and other project management tools.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) standards and experience working with PSM-covered processes.
