Description

AP Professionals has partnered with a local town in search of a Town Engineer. Responsible for the implementation of public works projects and resolution of engineering issues. The employee reports directly to and works under the general supervision of the Commissioner of Public Works and the Town Supervisor. Direct supervision is exercised over a staff of technical and professional employees and general supervision is exercised over certain other town personnel.

This is a full time, direct hire opportunity

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and assists in preparation of plans for major public works projects
  • Prepares detailed reports summarizing investigations and studies for municipal projects
  • Reviews and makes recommendations regarding projects submitted to the Town for approval and acts as liaison for engineering consultants on projects
  • Designs drainage projects, water main extensions, pump stations, sanitary sewers, sidewalks, roadways, park facilities, and other related public works construction
  • Writes specifications for all public works projects
  • Supervises preparation of legal descriptions for deeds, easements, and documents of a similar nature
  • Supervises the construction of projects given to contractors
  • Makes preliminary and final estimates on engineering construction
  • Writes and answers inquiries regarding town engineering work: Responds to citizen inquiries regarding infrastructure issues
  • Supervises the update and management of the Town of Brighton’s Stormwater Management Plan per the NYS DEC stormwater MS4 permit.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university

Experience

  • 6+ year of experience as a civil engineer working on municipal public works projects
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

  • Thorough knowledge of civil engineering principles and theory
  • Strong knowledge of techniques used in GIS, surveying and CAD drafting
  • Proficiency in designing projects and other public works construction
  • Proficiency in preparing detailed narrative reports
  • Demonstrated readiness to plan and supervise the work of subordinates
