AP Professionals has been retained by a local non-profit committed to health, economic and social opportunities in the Greater Rochester area. The ideal candidate is an experienced VP of Finance/Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead all financial, accounting, and investment operations for our organization. Reporting directly to the CEO, this individual will play a key role in driving financial stability, strategic growth, and sound fiscal management across all areas of the agency.  For a collaborative leader who thrives in a mission-driven environment and enjoys both high-level strategy and hands-on financial oversight, this is a premier role and organization!

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor the Finance team, overseeing all daily accounting and financial operations.
  • Direct core accounting functions, including A/P, A/R, payroll, general ledger, and reporting.
  • Manage monthly close, financial statements, audits, and tax filings with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Oversee the annual budgeting and forecasting process, collaborating closely with department leaders, the CEO, and the Board Finance Committee.
  • Provide strategic financial insights and recommendations to the CEO, Board of Directors, and Finance Committee.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal, tax, and regulatory requirements while maintaining strong internal controls.
  • Oversee investment portfolios and collaborate with stakeholders to align investment strategies with long-term goals and risk tolerance.
  • Partner with the Development team to align financial strategies with fundraising and revenue diversification goals.
  • Lead financial analysis and modeling to support informed decision-making and organizational growth.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors, financial institutions, and investment partners.
  • Stay current on nonprofit finance trends and best practices to continuously strengthen the organization’s fiscal position.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA or advanced degree preferred.

Experience

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance leadership, ideally within a nonprofit organization.
  • Strong technical knowledge of accounting principles, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, communicate effectively, and influence at the executive and board level.
  • Proven experience managing investments, risk, and compliance.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; Fund-EZ experience a plus.
