Description

AP Professionals has partnered with a local manufacturing company in search of a Cost Accountant. The Cost Accountant is responsible for analyzing and reporting on production costs, materials, labor, and overhead by comparing standard vs. actual costs, identifying variances, and working with operations to implement cost-saving measures for profitability. This position will start fully onsite and then become hybrid.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate manufacturing costs across all production stages, identifying opportunities for cost reduction.
  • Compare standard vs. actual costs, investigate variances, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records for raw materials and finished goods to ensure proper cost accounting.
  • Develop and update standard costs based on production processes and material usage.
  • Generate detailed cost reports, highlighting key cost drivers, trends, and breakdowns by product, department, and production run.
  • Collaborate with production teams to implement cost-saving measures, optimize material usage, and improve efficiency.
  • Assist in budget development and monitoring, identifying potential cost overruns and recommending corrective actions.
  • Analyze production data to identify cost-impacting trends and provide insights for decision-making.
  • Work closely with production managers, engineers, and other departments to improve cost efficiency.
  • Ensure adherence to accounting standards and internal cost reporting controls.
  • Assist with month-end close.
  • Support accounting management and account reconciliations.
  • Contribute to financial reporting and statement preparation.
  • Aid in annual budgeting and forecasting.
  • Help establish internal controls and policies.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • CPA or CMA is a plus.

Experience

  • At least 5 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in public accounting is a plus.

  • Proven track record in value creation and cost optimization.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • High level of integrity, accuracy, and diligence in financial operations.
