The Director of Finance is responsible for leading and coordinating the organization's financial operations and overseeing the financial management of grants. Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the VP/CFO to develop annual operating and capital budgets, including monthly variance reports and forecasts.
  • Prepare and distribute accurate internal and external reports, including financial statements, analyses, and compliance reports.
  • Oversee monthly ledger closing, financial report preparation, and balance sheet reconciliation with the Senior Accountant.
  • Manage year-end general ledger closing, audit preparation, and compliance with regulations.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual reports for the organization.
  • Respond to ad hoc financial information requests.
  • Assist the VP/CFO with special projects as needed.
  • Show respect for diverse backgrounds and viewpoints of all customers.
  • Oversee finance professionals in Accounts Payable, cash flow analysis, fixed assets, payroll, grant management, and asset/liability management.
  • Ensure high standards of teamwork and customer service across departments and agencies.
  • Develop team goals aligned with the Agency’s objectives.
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and support, setting professional development plans for employees.
  • Supervise and conduct annual performance evaluations for finance team members.
  • Manage cash flow, identify cost reduction and revenue enhancement opportunities, and prepare monthly cash flow projections for VP/CFO review.
  • Collaborate with the VP/CFO to prepare scheduled internal and external reports.
  • Assist in planning the annual department budget and monitor monthly expenditures and finance department needs.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and government regulations, staying updated on relevant laws.
  • Coordinate financial results with the Resource Development Department to accurately record donations and grants.
  • Act as the primary financial liaison for grants, collaborating with the Senior Accountant and program coordinators.
  • Monitor grant-funded programs, investigate variances, and implement improvements, reporting results monthly.
  • Handle grant preparation, modification, reconciliation, and reporting in collaboration with relevant staff.
  • Oversee the work of the Grants Finance Manager.
  • Advise budget managers on fiscal health and business opportunities for expanded services.
  • Ensure internal controls are in place for accurate financial records and cash disbursements.
  • Monitor critical accounts and transactions for fund accounting integrity.
  • Recommend procedural changes to the VP/CFO.
  • Complete annual and required reports on schedule.
  • Participate in organizational committees and affiliate initiatives as needed.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of financial operations software.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • CPA and MBA preferred.

Experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in a financial management role.
  • At least 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience in health care and non-profit sector preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Experience with accounting software (preferably MIP/SAGE) and clinic management systems (Medical Management, NextGen, EPIC).
  • Ability to make effective presentations to diverse audiences.
  • Independent worker with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and travel to multiple sites as needed.
  • Reliable transportation and/or valid driver's license.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and respectful organizational culture that values diversity.
  • Proficiency in two or more languages is preferred.
