Description

AP Professionals has been retained by a premier University in search of a Financial Analyst due to a retirement and a promotion. This position is responsible for all reporting, analyzing financial statements, reconciliations, and budgeting.  The University has an excellent reputation, offers a work/life balance, commitment to community engagement and strong relationships across campus. Responsibilities

  • Support the preparation of year-end financial statements, footnotes, and external audit requirements.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of GAAP and Uniform Guidance standards.
  • Assist with year-end close and annual financial audits.
  • Prepare and file federal and state tax returns (e.g., Forms 990, 990-T, CT-13, sales tax).
  • Complete external financial surveys for federal and state agencies.
  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual general ledger account reconciliations and analyses.
  • Partner with the Advancement Office on gift/pledge recording and endowment reporting.
  • Conduct variance and trend analysis on enrollment, revenue, and expenses.
  • Generate standard and customized reports for budget, payroll, A/P, and general ledger functions.
  • Develop financial dashboards and reports for senior leadership and the Board of Trustees.
  • Reconcile construction-in-progress accounts and support fixed asset accounting, including depreciation and asbestos abatement.
  • Assist with capital expenditure analysis.
  • Serve as a backup for Accounts Payable and Payroll operations.
  • Support ad-hoc financial analysis and special projects as assigned.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • CPA or MBA preferred.

Experience

  • At least 5 years of related accounting experience, ideally in a nonprofit or higher education setting.
  • Experience managing and analyzing financial data and leading financial projects.
  • Experience with ERP systems preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

  • Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Proficiency with data analysis, financial reporting, and compiling information from various sources.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong overall PC-based software proficiency.
