Description

This premier company in Rochester is seeking to add a manager to their tax department.  This is a company that benefits from the longevity of its employees and has been able to provide long term career opportunities for its team members.  As a result, this position is presently open, but the company is seeking the specific experience outlined below in order to have proper leadership and development of the team members with less experience.  It is rare that a manager-level position becomes available for someone outside of the organization to join the company. The Sales and Property Tax Manager will be looked to for their expertise in the laws that dictate the business operations as they relate to properties owned and sales made in different states. This will include ensuring compliance with all state and local laws where the company operates, ensuring the accuracy of the information provided in filings, managing the audits, and mitigating adjustments. The position will have high visibility among the leadership team and will be supported by a committed and engaged workforce.  The culture of this company is second to none and the successful candidate will be a strong fit culturally.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop team of employees, keeping in mind the overall objectives of the department and company, and providing pathways for growth and development to ensure a meaningful career plan.
  • Reinforce the culture of the company through meaningful conversations,  feedback, and team-building exercises.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Sales and Property tax laws in all jurisdictions where the company operates.
  • Monitors new and proposed legislation, determine potential impacts to the company, and presents updates to senior company management.
  • Work cross functionally to provide subject matter expertise and leadership and ensures compliance with tax laws for sales and purchase activities.
  • Collaborates to evaluate proposed business initiatives with a focus on tax implications and risk.
  • Manage Sales and Property tax audit process,appeals, and negotiations with tax authorities as needed.
  • Use expertise and knowledge to drive innovation, process improvement, while ensuring compliance.
  • Oversee and review property assessments for all corporate real estate and manage appeals process for reassessment, where appropriate.
  • Represents the company in negotiations and settlements with local and state tax authorities.
  • Identify and apply for tax abatements from state and local jurisdictions, where available.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field- accounting, finance
  • MBA is highly desired
  • CPA / EA credentials will be given preference

Experience

  • 7+ years of sales / property tax experience
  • Proven success managing sales tax audits
  • 5+ years of Real Estate and Personal Property experience

  • Ability to be adaptable and present new ways to address business changes or proposed laws  to enable operations to be innovative while minimizing the tax exposure
