Description

AP Professionals has partnered with a local manufacturing company in search of a VP of Engineering. The ideal candidate will lead and inspire program managers in achieving key objectives for product design, innovation, and the enhancement of our existing product lines. In this role, you’ll oversee engineering and development efforts, ensuring each project is executed with optimal methods for cost-effectiveness and feasibility. Your leadership will drive the daily operations and strategic priorities of the Program Management and Engineering Department.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an engineering strategy that aligns with the company’s overarching vision and goals, focusing on continuous improvement initiatives to boost product quality and operational efficiency.
  • Apply Lean Six Sigma principles to evaluate and enhance manufacturing processes, reducing costs, improving quality, and increasing productivity while establishing best practices for operational excellence.
  • Oversee critical projects, processes, and performance metrics, ensuring accurate data analysis and documentation within the department.
  • Collaborate with Management to set priorities, ensuring project deadlines are met efficiently.
  • Lead and manage the Program Managers, Engineers, and Tooling Manager, taking responsibility for overall team direction, coordination, and performance evaluations.
  • Recruit, develop, train, and supervise engineering and program management staff.
  • Establish and implement policies, procedures, and programs to guide department functions effectively.
  • Contribute to decisions on new production quotes and potential product line expansions for customers.
  • Collaborate with customers' technical teams to discuss current and future projects or concepts.
  • Ensure precise measurement of optical components and systems using advanced metrology techniques, overseeing calibration protocols to maintain high standards in quality assurance.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings to communicate priorities and updates.
  • Assign new programs to Program Managers and oversee their implementation.
  • Lead contract review meetings to ensure alignment on terms and deliverables.
  • Research new materials, processes, and procedures that could enhance and improve products.
  • Prepare detailed cost analyses and accurate project timelines for the quotation process.
  • Review new projects to assess design effectiveness, focusing on moldability, tooling, assembly, and material requirements.
  • Monitor work in progress and keep customers informed, ensuring they approve any necessary changes to product or schedule.
  • Provide engineering support and guidance across various departments within the company.
  • Utilize engineering software to create and refine design solutions.
  • Generate design concepts and collaborate with vendors in developing necessary tooling.
  • Support the manufacturing team in refining processes essential for production.
  • Exercise authority to halt or continue production on parts that do not meet specifications.
  • Manage and support the activities of the Tooling Specialist, overseeing departmental functions and ensuring effective operations.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent education and experience.

Experience

  • Demonstrated proficiency in metrology and assembly processes.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the optics or a related industry.
  • ISO experience is beneficial.
  • Proficiency with computers and standard software applications.
