Description

AP Professionals has partnered with a local non-profit in search of a VP of Finance. This is a “hands on” position responsible for managing the day to day as well as the long term strategy of the organization.  This senior management position has significant interaction with the Chair, Vice Chairs, Treasurer and Committee Chairs of the Board, professional associations, attorneys, auditors, bankers, and insurance agents. Prior board presentation experience is preferred.  This is an excellent opportunity to give back to the community!

Responsibilities

Financial

  • Develops and oversees the financial systems and structure of the organization.
  • Preparation and maintenance of all accounting and financial records and reports, including the general ledger, financial statements and forecasts, to comply with generally accepted accounting principles and statutory requirements.
  • Manages the processing of all accounts payable and receivable.
  • Development and monitoring of the annual operating budget.
  • Preparation for audits and serves as liaison with outside auditors.
  • Develops and oversees the organization’s cash flow position.
  • Provides financial reports to the CEO, senior staff, Board, and Board committees as needed, and supplies financial information for grants, reports and surveys.
  • Coordinates management of the internal endowment funds and investments to ensure compliance with the finance/investment committee’s policies and procedures. Supplies support to the external endowments supporting the organization, as needed.
  • Serves as the liaison with financial institutions holding accounts,     including operating, endowment, pension, etc.
  • Serves as a negotiator or consultant in contract negotiations, including but not limited to the master agreement with the organization’s union and independent contractors.
  • Act as a resource to the Board, staff and volunteers in the areas of finance, accounting, insurance, benefits, systems and legal matters.
  • Responsible for on-going strategic planning and forecasting in support of the organization’s vision, goals, and objectives.

Information Systems

  • Oversees all computer and information system activities and issues of the organization, including uses of the system, systems communications issues, and systems training.
  • Oversees the administration of all systems-related policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Responsible for directing the ongoing strategic planning for information technology in support of the organization’s vision, goals and objectives.
  • Works with IT consultant to ensure data security. Monitors current developments in cybersecurity.

Administrative

  • Acts as staff liaison to the Audit and Finance Committees of the Board.
  • Oversees the purchase/acquisition and maintenance of office equipment items such as copiers, phone systems, etc.
  • Oversees coordination of all administrative office building and space needs.
  • Acts as a representative in all work with the organization’s legal counsel.
  • Determines and coordinates, in conjunction with the Audit Committee, all insurance needs including property, liability, and workers compensation coverages, limits and renewals.
  • Maintains all official corporate records such as the Articles of Incorporation, By-Laws, and IRS exemption certificate.  Ensures that all acts of Board and sub-committees, relating to primarily to financial matters, are within scope of the corporation’s by-laws.

Miscellaneous

  • Performs other duties as apparent or assigned.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree; MBA or CPA preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of five years of experience in a senior-level finance position; experience in non-profit organizations.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Crystal Reports; experience with  Great Plains accounting software a plus.
  • Great organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects.
  • Team spirit and high level of comfort working with a wide constituency with varying degrees of accounting and financial knowledge.
  • Self-motivated, strategic thinker with an institutional outlook.
