The Wire EDM Programmer/Operator is responsible for programming, setting up, and operating wire EDM machines, along with various other machine tools. This role involves interpreting part prints, process sheets, quality documentation, and CAD models to manufacture precision components to exact specifications. The individual in this position supports a work environment that is positive and safe, encourages continuous improvement, and contributes to achieving the organization’s overall goals and objectives.
HOURLY PAY RANGE: $22.40/hr - $30.90/hr. Plus $2.00/hr shift differential
SHIFT HOURS: 10:00 pm – 6:30 am
Level I
- Keep the work area clean and safe by following standard safety protocols and using required personal protective equipment.
- Read and interpret part drawings and apply basic knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Set up machines, operate them, and troubleshoot production parts as needed.
- Monitor parts during production using visual inspection and dimensional measurements to ensure they meet specifications.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance tasks on assigned equipment.
- Collaborate with other departments on projects, design work, and process improvement initiatives.
Level II
- Program, set up, and operate wire EDM machines, with a focus on machines using Fanuc controls.
- Create and troubleshoot complex tool paths using CAM-I software.
- Identify issues during production and make offset adjustments to maintain part quality.
- Complete and record preventative maintenance on the lower heads of machines, wire choppers, and seal plates.
- Set up and operate the Hole Popper machine as required.
Level III
- Manufacture custom parts used for prototypes.
- Independently perform machine setups, operate equipment, and make any necessary adjustments.
- Write and modify complex EDM programs without the need for supervision.
- Work directly with Discovery and Engineering teams during prototyping, engineering evaluations, validation and verification, and process qualification or performance verification stages.

- Demonstrates basic mathematical skills relevant to shop work.
- Can interpret blueprints, follow work instructions, and understand inspection standards.
- Operates a range of shop machinery and equipment.
- Uses standard inspection tools with proficiency.
- Possesses a fundamental knowledge of GD&T principles.
- Works effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Level II
- Has experience working with tight tolerances in various metals.
- Shows a thorough understanding of GD&T concepts.
- Able to program advanced tool paths.
- Experience with CAM-I programming is considered an asset.
Level III
- Independently programs, sets up, and operates EDM equipment.
- Writes and edits advanced EDM programs without supervision.
- Exhibits strong skills in problem-solving.
- Provides coaching and guidance to others.
