Description

A well-established building materials supplier, serving both contractors and homeowners for over four decades, is seeking a Controller to lead financial operations and drive long-term success.

This $20–30 million organization is known for its stability, quality products, and strong reputation in the construction and distribution space. The Controller will oversee all financial strategy and operations, manage and develop a finance team of three, and partner closely with location managers and the executive team on strategic projects. The company is invested in modern financial reporting technology, offering a forward-thinking environment where process improvement and data-driven decision-making are valued. This is a fully onsite, Webster-based, direct hire leadership opportunity for an experienced finance professional who thrives in a hands-on, growth-focused setting.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute financial strategies that drive growth, profitability, and long-term sustainability.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes, providing clear insights to support business decisions.
  • Monitor cash flow, performance metrics, and KPIs to guide strategic and operational priorities.
  • Oversee financial reporting to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery of statements.
  • Manage all accounting functions in accordance with GAAP and applicable regulations.
  • Strengthen pricing, cost control, and profitability analysis to improve margins.
  • Maintain strong relationships with banks, auditors, and external financial partners.
  • Build and utilize financial models to evaluate business opportunities, risks, and expansion initiatives.
  • Direct accounts receivable, accounts payable, and credit policies to optimize working capital.
  • Oversee inventory accounting and key metrics, including turnover and valuation accuracy.
  • Implement and maintain strong financial controls and risk management practices.
  • Lead financial due diligence for potential mergers, acquisitions, and strategic partnerships.
  • Continuously assess and enhance financial systems and processes for greater efficiency and transparency.
  • Oversee payroll, benefits, and commission structures in collaboration with HR.
  • Support effective tax planning and compliance to minimize risk and maximize efficiency.
  • Partner with the CEO and executive leadership to provide actionable financial insights.
  • Analyze both financial and operational data to support informed decision-making.
  • Ensure full compliance with all local, state, and federal financial regulations.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance and accounting team.
  • Evaluate and implement financial technology solutions that streamline reporting and improve accuracy.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to align financial goals with overall business objectives.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field (MBA or CPA preferred).

Experience

  • 10+ years of financial leadership experience, preferably in construction, distribution, or a related industry.
