We are excited to partner with a local company that is committed to providing sustainable wood products to support people, the planet, and prosperity.  They are seeking a dependable and detail oriented Part-Time Payroll Specialist to join the HR and Finance team. This in office role is responsible for managing weekly payroll using ADP Workforce Now.  Employees work across multiple states (NY, OR, PA, SC, TX) with three affiliated companies. Candidates with experience in construction or job costing payroll are highly preferred. The position is based in Farmington, NY, with required availability on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. This role is essential to ensuring accurate payroll processing, maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations, and supporting financial and operational transparency aligned with our mission of building better for people, planet, and prosperity.

Responsibilities

  • Manage weekly payroll processing in ADP Workforce Now for salaried and hourly employees across multiple states (NY, OR, PA, SC, TX).

  • Audit and verify timecards, job cost codes, deductions, reimbursements, and accrual entries for accuracy.

  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local wage and payroll laws.

  • Provide timely and professional responses to employee payroll inquiries.

  • Partner with HR and Accounting to ensure payroll accuracy, reporting consistency, and proper job cost allocations.

  • Assist with payroll setup for new hires and process final pay for departing employees.

  • Prepare payroll reports and support audits, reconciliations, and year-end processing.

  • Record payroll data and related liability activity in the general ledger and reconcile payroll accounts.

  • Collaborate with Finance to prepare accurate and timely journal entries for payroll and benefits liabilities.

  • Support HR and Finance teams during audits, including financial audits, 401(k) reviews, and multi-state workers’ compensation audits.

  • Assist with required annual nondiscrimination testing for benefit plans.

  • Safeguard sensitive payroll and employee data by upholding strict confidentiality standards.

Experience

  • Prior experience using ADP Workforce Now is required

  • Background in construction industry payroll or job-costing is strongly preferred

  • Experience supporting 401(k) administration and multi-state workers’ compensation audits is a plus

  • Solid understanding of general ledger processes, liability accounts, and basic accounting principles is strongly preferred

  • Familiarity with Acumatica ERP is beneficial

  • Knowledge of payroll and tax compliance requirements, including multi-state regulations (NY, OR, PA, SC, TX)

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines

  • Excellent organizational skills and clear communication abilities

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience working with payroll or financial reporting tools

  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
